Mrinal Pande has stepped down as the editor-in-chief of Hindustan, ending a nine-year-stint at the helm of the Hindi daily and an 18-year association with HT Media Ltd. Pande was the first woman editor of a multi-edition Hindi daily and was, till she left, a rare female face in the editor’s chair in print journalism in India, and particularly so in non-English media. “I have been thinking of moving on for a while, and I just took the plunge,” she told contentSutra, adding that she would continue to write her column in Mint, HT Media’s business daily. She will also be working on some books. Pande has spent 27 years in journalism, variously at The Times of India, Doordarshan, NDTV and as an editor at Saptahik Hindustan and Hindustan.
Amar Ujala group editor Shashi Shekhar will replace Pande at Hindustan.
