OpSource today announced its OpSource Cloud infrastructure-as-a-service offering. This is a departure from the business for which OpSource is known best: serving as a platform for dozens of popular SaaS and web apps. In fact, when I spoke with OpSource CEO Treb Ryan, he noted that while many in the Fortune 500 use apps hosted in OpSource’s infrastructure, OpSource is invisible to the end-user. His job now is to educate those companies about OpSource and its new IaaS offering. It shouldn’t bee too difficult to get their attention: The OpSource Cloud is built using standard equipment, is designed with security and compliance in mind, and offers, from the start, a virtual private cloud option far more advanced than Amazon’s VPC currently is.
