BlackBerry Gets Better Gmail

gmail_mobile_bb_smallThe BlackBerry has always been known for its great email support and Gmail users get an upgrade that makes it even better if you’re using IMAP. The updated support is not the Gmail Mobile suite for the BlackBerry — this is the support for the Gmail that is integrated into the BlackBerry mail services.

The new features rolled out this week include:

  • The ability to star and label messages
  • Mark messages as spam
  • Perform a local or remote search of your entire inbox
  • Archive email messages
  • Threaded view

The new features offer a more complete Gmail experience on the BlackBerry but users should be aware of the following limitations of the one-way synchronization from BlackBerry device to Gmail server:

  • Applying labels and stars to email messages in Google Mail after they are retrieved by the BlackBerry Internet Service.
  • Labels that are renamed in Google Mail are not applied to the corresponding labels on the BlackBerry smartphone. The new label is synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone, but does not replace the existing label.
  • Email messages that are marked as read, archived, or spam in Google Mail are not marked as spam on the BlackBerry smartphone.
  • Labels cannot be created, renamed, or deleted using the BlackBerry smartphone.

To get the enhanced Gmail support go to blackberry.com/gmail on your BlackBerry.
