Today in Mobile

RIM may be taking a major step toward closing the gap between mobile and the Internet with its acquisition of Torch Mobile, a Canadian developer that specializes in open source software and WebKit-based mobile browsers. The move makes sense in light of last week’s news that RIM plans to integrate support for Flash (not merely Flash Lite) and Microsoft’s Silverlight into its browser, and would help RIM compete with Apple’s iPhone when it comes to accessing Web content. RIM isn’t talking much about its plans for Torch Mobile, but look for the company to roll out a new browser as soon as it can.
