In the U.S., feature phones sales fell 5 percent to make up 72 percent of new handset sales in Q2, while sales of new smartphones reached 28 percent of all sales, representing a 47 percent increase isince last year, according to NPD Group, a market research company. Release.

— Overall sales: jumped 14 percent year-over-year.
— Average selling price of phones: $87.
— Top feature phones: the LG (SEO: 066570) enV2 and Samsung Rant.
— Top smartphones: Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone 3G and RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) Blackberry Curve.
— Touchscreens: 26 percent of phones sold had a touchscreen.
