Broadband Content Bits: Utarget.fox Ads; Karoo's U-Turn; BBC HTML5; MSN Video

Utarget.fox-InSkin: News Corp-own video ad network Utarget.fox is partnering with InSkin in Germany, Spain and France to offer Flash-based, interactive ad formats. InSkn’s technology allows viewers to click on addition wraparound content about a brand’s campaign while watching a video clip. From Mandemglobal.com.

Karoo’s piracy u-turn: We predicted Kingston Communication’s Hull-based ISP Karoo would reverse its decision to unilaterally impose a three-strikes cut-off policy for users who download illegally and now it has. The ISP will still send out three warning letters, but won’t disconnect anyone until it “receives a court order from a copyright owner taking legal action”. Via Torrentfreak.com.

BBC HTML5: Auntie is prototyping basic videos in the nascent HTML5 standard, which promises richer web-based apps without plugins. The BBC is demoing chapter navigation within videos here, detailed here.

MSN Video: The Guardian is trumpeting stats for Ashley Highfield’s new pet project. Its video player with archive shows including Shameless, Peep Show and The Young Ones clocked up 154,841 video views between August 3 and this weekend. “One motivation behind the MSN Video pilot is to see the demand for programmes outside the catchup TV window,” Highfield says.
