Microsoft and Nokia to Announce Alliance for Office Today

office logoMicrosoft and Nokia are holding a press conference today where they will reportedly announce an alliance to put Microsoft Office on Nokia phones. There isn’t much known about this alliance; we’ll have to wait to hear what both companies say later today. Microsoft currently has native Office document support on the Windows Mobile platform, and while an alliance with giant Nokia makes sense for the Office team, I wonder if the Windows Mobile team is happy to share the Office love with a competing phone platform.

Nokia phones have long had Office editing and viewing capability from third-party solutions such as Documents to Go, so it’s not clear yet how much value native support will add for users. The announcement of native support will likely be unsettling for DataViz, maker of Documents to Go.
