Xora and Gearworks have merged to create a larger company that specializes in location-based business applications, such as payroll and time clock services. As part of the deal, investors from both companies, including Dawntreader Ventures, BlueStream Ventures, Split Rock Partners, and Rho Ventures, have invested an additional $8.5 million. The company will be called Xora and Xora’s current CEO Sanjay Shirole will lead the combined entity.
The company says together they will have more than 16,000 customers and partnerships with several carriers, including Sprint (NYSE: S), Verizon (NYSE: VZ), AT&T (NYSE: T), Telstra and US Cellular. Together, they will focus on products that companies can use to manage their workforce. For instance, Xora has a location-based mobile time clock and payroll services application and Gearworks has a field force manager. Both Gearworks’ headquarters in Eagan, Minn. and Xora’s offices in Mountain View, Calif. will be maintained.
