Power management saves money and I, for one, don’t need convincing.  Despite the added power draw of my home’s air conditioning unit, my electrical bill has stayed manageable because I set my small army of computers to go to sleep after periods of inactivity during the day and shut them off at night.  No wear and tear issues so far on various PCs including a 5-year-old HP laptop.  And it’s not just home computer users that can benefit.  Cox Communications installed Verdiem’s power management software on 15,000 PCs in April.  So far the company is saving 40 percent on energy costs and it expects to recoup its investment in a year as a result.  One thing you don’t want to do is ignore or trivialize the capabilities of the solutions you have at your disposal.  Take the U.S. Department of Energy.  In 2008, they overspent to the tune of $11.5 million by, among other things, failing to maintain and operate their HVAC power management systems.  You think they would know better…
