What If You Didn’t Have To Pay To Receive Text Messages?

mBlox

A new text-messaging service launched today could make advertising over text messages a whole lot easier.

mBlox has launched a new service that allows companies to send messages to subscribers without the consumer having to pay a fee. Instead, the company can absorb the fee on behalf of the consumer. Already, mBlox said financial institutions are using it to inform customers of the status of credit applications or for after hours assistance. But you could see how companies could use it to persuade subscribers to sign-up for additional information or coupons if there’s no fees attached. Release.

Of course, this is more significant among subscribers who still pay per message and haven’t signed up for a bulk message plan, but those are exactly the people an advertiser doesn’t want to accidentally send a message. mBlox said the service, which it calls “Free to End User,” is now working with T-Mobile and AT&T (NYSE: T) in the U.S., but it has plans to roll out to other mobile operators.
