Delaware-based WeFi, which encourages a community approach to sharing Wi-Fi hotspots, has raised an undisclosed amount in a second round funding. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Pitango Venture Capital.
Over the past year, the company has focused on the mobile market by letting cellphone users automatically connect to hotspots while on the go. In doing so, the company is able to leverage complaints about slow or inaccessible 3G networks. So far, it has applications working on Android, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and Windows Mobile. The capital will help WeFi expand its technology reach to additional platforms (iPhone is probably a good guess), and to accelerate sales and marketing worldwide.
