Arqiva, which is busy assembling a team to make its proposed consumer VOD product become a reality, has picked former Eurosport MD Pierre-Jean Sebert as the CEO, the Guardian.co.uk reports, quoting sources. The company told us simply that it was still putting its management team together and that it was too early to announce any appointments, but it didn’t deny that Sebert was in the frame. Sebert left Eurosport in 2005 to join UKTV.

The broadcast technology company is understood to have paid some £8 million for the remains of Project Kangaroo, the failed BBC-ITV-Channel 4 JV, and plans to launch a part-ad-funded, part-paid-for VOD site in the coming months, as business development director Rob Hamlin told me last week.

The UK commercial online VOD sector could finally be hotting up: Microsoft yesterday released details of content deals to show extended TV shows; Hulu is hoping for a UK launch some time this year and now Swedish music streamer Spotify has confirmed it could begin showing long-form video content after launching its video ad player.
