This may be a silly thing to judge how well a mobile operating system is doing, but when you start getting the attention of major developers — like Facebook — you know you’ve made it to a certain degree. What makes this argument easier to make in this case is noting Facebook’s intense rivalry with Google (NSDQ: GOOG).
To that end, the first official Facebook application for Google’s operating system could hit the Android Market as soon as the end of this week, reports TechCrunch. This is a big deal because so far Android had a dozen or so knock-offs of the popular social network, which in most cases don’t work any easier than using the mobile web.
Still, it doesn’t sound like the app will be as full featured as the iPhone or BlackBerry version. For instance, apparently it won’t have an inbox, but it will have the full Facebook stream and all the status updates. Hopefully, it will also allow you to upload pictures directly from your device.
