Android Coming to the Home– Cell Phone Not Needed

Android logoGoogle made Android easy to use, and perhaps more importantly, easy to develop for. We are starting to see cell phones appear in greater numbers, and there have been rumors for a while about netbooks running the OS. The platform may be more versatile than we think, as companies are looking at producing home appliances running Android.

The appliances are expected to appear in three types: media control devices, home control devices and most interestingly, home phones. All devices are expected to be touch-enabled, and operate over Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet.  These Android-based devices will control home lighting, alarms, heating/cooling and audio/video systems, and add VoIP for phone calls.

Android is coming home in a big way, and it is attributed to the low cost of producing devices using the Google OS, along with the smart way Android uses touch for control.
