Yahoo’s Home Page Makeover Includes New Links Between Mobile And Desktop Sites

Along with the major Yahoo.com overhaul that Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) is set to announce Tuesday, the company is also playing up additional tie-ins between the desktop version of Yahoo.com and the mobile version of the home page. On the new Yahoo.com, users will be able to add apps, featuring either Yahoo or third-party services, to the home page. Those preferences will also transfer over to the mobile version of the site once a user logs in. “If you set something up on the home page you seamlessly see that on the mobile device,” said Yahoo SVP Tapan Bhat in a conference call Monday. He said it was part of a larger effort to “mobilize” all of Yahoo.

The apps, which are grouped under the label “My Favorites,” will be accessible via one of three new tabs on the mobile version of Yahoo.com. Already, Yahoo had been including access to outside apps in its mobile home page to some extent. For instance, a new mobile version rolled out in April allowed users to access Gmail and Hotmail, along with Yahoo Mail. The other tabs in the revamped Yahoo mobile home page include “Today,” which was already prominently featured on the current mobile home page, as well as “All Sites.” The search box, of course, still anchors the top of the new page (See screenshot to the left).
