Philips-owned video watermarking firm Civolution has bought watermarking business Software & Technologies from global content delivery company Thomson. It means that Eindhoven-based Civolution grows again, after being formed as spinoff from Philips and merged with Philips-owned, UK-based Teletrax last year. The terms are not disclosed but Prime Technology Ventures, the lead investor in Civolution’s spinoff as a separate company, is providing funding. As part of the deal Thomson will remain a shareholder in Civolution and says it remains “committed to the content ID market”; it’s even entering a new “technology collaboration” to find new ways of monetising clients’ video content, as well as simply detecting and authorising illegal use.
