Mobile-game maker Namco, which is known for producing the retro arcade game classic Pac-Man, has formed a division within the company Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) Games for Namco. The new division is dedicated exclusively to the iPhone and iPod touch and is headed up by former I-Play Mobile Gaming producer and designer Jonathan Kromrey, reports TouchArcade.com.
The division was announced, in part, with today’s release of Pac-Man Remix for the iPhone, which uses enhanced graphics to update the classic game of avoiding ghosts while chomping up little dots. The game is $5.99 in the iTunes App Store. In a release, the company didn’t go into details on the new division, but listed Kromrey as the general manager for Apple Games Namco Networks (Separately, a Namco spokesman said confirmed that Kromrey is heading Namco’s Apple Games division). This is at least the second major game studio in recent weeks to say they were creating a dedicated iPhone division. Last week, EA Mobile launched a new “micro-studio” called 8lb Gorilla, which plans to develop 99 cent iPhone and iPod Touch games.
