There is a lot of talk today about what the future holds for Dell, both in terms of its data center strategy and its de-duplication strategy. In my humble opinion, it might be a wise move by Dell to differentiate itself from its server competition by continuing to focus on commodity instead of attempting some sort of unified computing strategy. For companies or service providers who want to build their data centers Google-style, a model that has plenty of merit, cheap, low-power and reliable servers are the goal, and you can sell a lot of them. Plus, Dell already has the management software layer set via its Egenera partnership.
