I haven’t seen much press on this, which is a little disturbing. EMC — storage leader, VMware shareholder and Cisco partner — gets into the virtual/cloud systems management space and nobody cares? The launch of EMC’s Ionix family is particularly interesting given CA’s new management capabilities for VMware vSphere 4 and Cisco virtual switches. And then there are the rumors that EMC, Cisco and VMware might spin off a joint systems company targeting virtualized workloads. Ionix would seem a lock as the systems management partner of choice, but CA is now cozying up to Cisco/VMware, too. All of this without mentioning more competition for HP and IBM. Juicy, no? Chime in: @derrickharris.
