Tel Aviv-based mobile startup MobiApp has raised between $700,000 and $800,000 in a round of funding from Maayan Venture Capital. The Office of the Chief Scientist (a division of Israel’s Ministry of Industry and Trade) also invested as part of a government-sponsored tech incubation program.
MobiApps’ core product, Mingle, is a location-aware mobile social network that uses Bluetooth to work in close-range settings like bars, cafes and conferences, per DJ VentureWire. (There could be some “spammy” inclinations though, as the network automatically pings fellow smartphone users nearby with a join request — a la services like Tagged). Mingle users can also share profile info with Facebook and Twitter; the network is currently being tested in Tel Aviv. Release.
