Industry Moves: TN Prabhu To Leave UTV New Media; Manish Agarwal To Replace Him As CEO

T.N. Prabhu, CEO at UTV New Media, is leaving the company, according to a person familiar with the situation. The company has hired Manish Agarwal to replace him, the same person said. Agarwal is director, marketing at Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) India, and was formerly vice president, marketing, at Rediff.com (NSDQ: REDF). Prabhu could not be reached for comment and did not respond to text messages left on his mobile phone. Agarwal declined comment. We could not ascertain where Prabhu was headed next.

Prabhu is considered a crack digital media executive, with some 18 years of experience at companies such as Times Internet Ltd, Rediff.com, The Hindu and Cyber Media. Prior to joining UTV, he was director, The Walt Disney Internet Group (NYSE: DIS). Prabhu is best known for pioneering short codes in India and he is credited with the success of the 8888 short code of Indiatimes.

UTV New Media handles the mobile and Internet businesses of the UTV Group. Medianama first reported that Manish Agarwal was being hired by UTV.
