– Tiscali: It’s not just BT (NYSE: BT) that wants content owners to pay for the online distribution of video content — Tiscali, the UK ISP now owned by Carphone Warehouse, wants online to viewed the same as platforms like satellite TV which broadcasters must pay to use. Director of television Simon Hunt says: “The BBC spends a lot of money on Sky so we can watch its programmes at home… It also spends a lot of money putting them on DTT so they can be picked up, but this is just another form of digital distribution; so why is this free of charge?” Via Digital Spy.
— IAB members: The Internet Advertising Board has an influx of new members: Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Advertising, Google (NSDQ: GOOG), ComScore (NSDQ: SCOR) and News Corp (NYSE: NWS) all join the IAB Europe board. ComScore MD Mike Reid and News Corp.’s VP of government policy David Fares are made corporate members of the IAB federation. — Online classical comp: Classical music portal Dillettantemusic.com is launching a competition to find a composer-in-residence. Judges and site the site’s community will choose a year long resident from three finalists in November. At the same time the site is rolling out new music shopping features.
— 4iP funds All Write: Channel 4’s 4iP new media investment fund is backing a new project from interactive story developer Six to Start to develop a creative writing game called All Write, with financial help from the national education agency Learning and Teaching Scotland. We mentioned the deal briefly last month but we now learn via the 4iP blog that Six to Start co-founders, brothers Dan and Adrian Hon, will also develop a teen version of the game for use in Scottish schools.
