Ailing phone maker Motorola has stated it will be looking to Android to help it recapture the lofty position it once held in the phone market. Android has the tools that Motorola can use to build phones that far surpass the old RAZR days. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that “according to people familiar with the matter” (those who will get fired if they get outed), Motorola will be producing Android phones for both T-Mobile and Verizon.

T-Mobile jumped on the Android train last year with the G1 and will soon be launching the myTouch 3G. They know all too well how Android can help rejuvenate a 3G offering, so this is no surprise. A Motorola Android phone would be a first for Verizon and will be interesting to watch.

WSJ is reporting that the Motorola Android phones for T-Mobile and Verizon will sport slide-out keyboards, which is surprising as the upcoming myTouch 3G loses the keyboard on the original Android phone, the G1.
