At LinuxWorld in August, Merrill Lynch’s Jeff Birnbaum was touting the firm’s “stateless computing” initiative, which essentially is a private cloud. The company was looking at Platform LSF as the resource scheduler. With today’s announcement of Platform’s ISF cloud management software, companies like Merrill Lynch can spread their trust for Platform across a greater swath of their cloud efforts. I think they will, too. Platform has a great reputation within large corporate data centers, and, according to CEO Songnian Zhou, even analysts have been asking why it took so long for Platform to develop a cloud solution. Plus, Platform’s customers have been federating line-of-business grids into company-wide grids for some time. At a base level, ISF extends this capability across the application library.
