Latest Ziff Davis Property To Get Ax: ExtremeTech

No message on the ExtremeTech site yet, but Venturebeat reports that ExtremeTech’s staff is being laid off and the site will no longer be updated. A Ziff Davis spokesperson did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment on Sunday.

ExtremeTech is known for its in-depth tech coverage and reviews, which are aimed at do-it-yourselfers. The site attracted about 200,000 unique visitors last month, up from about 170,000 uniques a year ago, according to But Ziff Davis has been shedding business units ever since (and even before) it emerged from bankruptcy a year ago. It closed down the print version of PC Magazine in November, and in January, it also sold its portfolio of gaming sites to Hearst Corp.

In announcing the shut down of PC Magazine and in selling 1UP, Ziff Davis said that it wanted to concentrate on its PC Mag Digital Network, which included ExtremeTech as one of its flagship properties. The closing of ExtremeTech, therefore, does not seem to bode well for those plans.
