It looks like Sirius XM (NSDQ: SIRI) intends its new iPhone app as a very limited version of its satellite service. Users who download the app, which was released today, will not be able to access Howard Stern, MLB Play-by-Play, NFL Play-by-Play and Sirius Nascar Radio. AllThingsD’s Digital Daily cited the Sirius Internet Radio FAQ, which indicated that licensing restrictions prevented it from bringing those sports broadcasts along. No explanation was given for Stern’s absence from the app. While premium subscribers can access the app’s features for free, regular subs have to pay an additional $2.99, after a free week-long trial. Sirius often points to Stern as its biggest subscriber draw, so it’s certainly appears counterproductive to leave him out.
