Seattle has seen its fair share of activity on the local news front: it was the first major city in U.S. to lose a printed newspaper Seattle PI earlier this year, and turned into an online only venture. Now a small local blog PubliCola, focusing on local politics and public affairs issues, has received an undisclosed amount of seed funding from two prominent localites. The site was started this January by former The Stranger (the local alt-weekly) staffers Josh Feit and Sandeep Kaushik.
The money, which the site says is “significant” and enough to ensure that “PubliCola is going to be around for some time,” comes from Rajeev Singh, president and COO of Nasdaq-traded software company Concur Technologies, and Greg Smith, the green developer who considered a run for Seattle mayor earlier this year. With this new funding, the site plans to broaden its coverage beyond its current remit. Publicola’s own bog post about the funding, here.
