Industry Moves: Mindshare Digital Exec’s Start-Up; Sport Media Group; Yell Group

imageMindshare: Simon Andrews, global digital strategy officer at WWP’s digital agency Mindshare, has left the company and says he will be “spending the summer looking at the opportunities for a new business focused on content and services for smart phones“. He writes on his blog: “I see the most exciting opportunity as around mobile content and services – focused on smart phones. Over 300 million smart phones have been sold since the start of 2007 – and this is making the mobile internet a reality.” Andrews joined Mindshare in 2006 and has already launched four start-ups.

Sport Media Group: A shake-up at the Daily Sport publisher after its long-term proprietor David Sullivan came back on board as “honorary” publisher. London-based group financial controller Andrew Fletcher leaves the company following consolidation of the company’s finance department at its Manchester HQ and non-exec chairman David Bailey will step down this year. The company also says its print circulation has increased to an (unverified) average of 75,000 a day and that it’s saved £700,000 from a round of 25 redundancies. Release.

Yell Group: The Yellow Pages maker has appointed former Merrill Lynch EMEA chairman Bob Wigley as its new chairman, following the planned departure of Bob Scott. Wigley takes up the role after the company’s AGM on July 24. In his welcome press release he says: “Few companies are so successfully building and monetising a rapidly growing online business to complement its highly cost-effective print operations.” Yell’s online revenues are growing, they were up 38 percent in the 12 months to March 31, but overall revenues were down 4.6 percent in the same period. Release.
