Apps Biting Into Time Spent With Other Media

imageThe use of applications on smartphone is reducing time spent with other media according to a survey, which indicates that mobiles are not just used in people’s downtime. Gravity Tank surveyed 804 smartphone users, 301 of whom own “app-enabled phones” (either Apple’s iPhone or HTC’s G1) and found that respondents have downloaded an average of 23.6 applications to their phone and use an average of 6.8 apps every day. The research isn’t exhaustive, but it gives an idea of how people wit high-end phones use them. Almost half (48 percent) of the respondents reported shopping for apps more than once a week, and 49 percent report using mobile apps for more than 30 minutes each day in aggregate — the usage is in short bursts.
