Smartbooks are heating up — much as netbooks did in the beginning — and we may be seeing the start of a trend in companion devices. Smartbooks use non-Intel processor technology like that from Freescale ,and they are beginning to appear at Computex in Taiwan, which is under way now. Laptop Magazine is having a look at the ARM technology, and it has a short video up of the Wistron N900z based on a Freescale processor running at 800 MHz. The Wistron won’t set any speed records with that processor, but the reviewer does find it fine for playing video and surfing the web. These smartbooks are expected to hit the market for less than $200, and with integrated 3G, we could easily see carriers giving these babies away. Check out the video, and see what all the buzz is about.
