After Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) unveiled “Bing” search last week, designed to challenge Google (NSDQ: GOOG) and Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) on the internet, the company made a mobile version available, likely to threaten the other search providers’ dominance in mobile. The site, which became available yesterday, is at m.bing.com.
ZDNet’s Mary-Jo Foley reported today that the “Bing for Mobile” search engine will return results that are formatted to fit the phone. For instance, it creates a “visual image-map of a Web page, allowing users to click the numbered zones to view the corresponding section of that web page.” But right now, it sounds like it is a work in progress with results mirroring Live Search Mobile. In the product reviewer’s guide, it said the mobile search engine “is the updated version of Live Search Mobile. We aren’t announcing any new features at this time, but new versions of the application will be released soon.” As far as results, MobileCrunch gives the mobile search engine a thumbs down for a disappointing performance.
