As the AP says this morning: “Miles per hour — out. Bits per second — in.” With GM’s official bankruptcy filing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is adding Cisco to its roster. Today (and in the week ahead), we’ll see plenty of coverage of what GM’s bankruptcy means for electic cars, but in many ways, Cisco’s addition to the Dow is also an indicator of a coming shift toward green technologies. The company has set its own environmental targets internally, and is ramping up its work on smart grid and energy-efficient technologies. We’ll see if GM’s future follows this trend as well.
