Palm Reveals Latest Features Of Palm Pre; Confirms iTunes Sync And Beta ‘App Catalog’

imagePalm’s trying really hard to create a ton of buzz in the days leading up to the Pre’s release. Today, Palm’s chairman Jon Rubinstein and Palm (NSDQ: PALM) board member Roger McNamee, appeared at WSJ’s All Things Digital conference to beat the drum even more.

The pair unveiled a number of yet-to-be-announced features of the upcoming Palm webOS, including an advance look at the App Catalog, the company’s equivalent of Apple’s App Store; MediaSync, which allows users to easily connect to their iTunes account; and that Twitter will be integrated directly into the phone’s search functionality. But the two declined to provide any details on whether Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) will be offering a Pre or Pre successor anytime soon, other than to say that Sprint (NYSE: S) continues to be the focus for now, and eventually they will want to be everywhere. App Catalog: The App Catalog will be available in beta when the phone goes for sale June 6. It will feature applications, such as AP News, Citysearch, Fandango, Pandora and uLocate, but sounds like it’s in beta because there won’t be a ton of selection from the start.

Palm Media Sync: As reported earlier by Fortune, Palm media sync allows Pre owners to plug their phone into their Mac or PC to connect to iTunes. Users will be able to transfer their DRM-free music, photos and videos to the Palm Pre. It will not just support iTunes media, but will act as a general storage drive. The Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) MP3 store will also be integrated into the device, much like it is on the T-Mobile G1. Songs can be downloaded over a Wi-Fi network.

Twitter in Universal Search: Palm also announced that “Twitter search” will be integrated into webOS universal search. Universal search works from the phone’s homescreen. Just start typing, and the Pre will figure out if you
