Nokia Gives Away Innovations To Help Finnish Industry

imageNokia has teamed up with Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, and science and technology park chain Technopolis to launch the Nokia Technopolis Innovation Mill, which will involve Nokia giving around 100 mobile innovations it has developed but not commercialized to companies which can make use of them, and which will gain funding to do so. The “innovations released by Nokia are in areas such as environmental and energy-related solutions, location based services and advertising, near field communication, mobile security, health care applications and future internet services, among others” notes the release.

This is a good move for Nokia (NYSE: NOK). By it’s own admission it is giving the companies ideas which it isn’t going to do anything with, so it loses nothing. On the other hand they all probably relate to mobiles, so if they’re developed into something successful Nokia will benefit — especially since it’s likely to be built on Nokia handsets.
