Skype has started a private, closed beta for a Skype application for the BlackBerry platform, reports Engadget. Skype is already on the iPhone, Windows and some Nokia Symbian handsets, so this covers most of the smartphone bases. Handsets are one thing, carriers are another — there`s been a lot of efforts by carriers to restrict VoIP apps on their networks…T-Mobile Germany just stripped it from the N97 and Skype on the iPhone hasn`t gone a whole lot better. Mind you, once it`s available on all the handsets carriers are going to have a tough time keeping their customers from using it, especially if their competitors decide to push it as a marketing ploy like 3 is doing.
