Broadband Content Bits: BBC’s Online Teen Drama, Channel4.com Traffic; Orange Mobile Broadband

imageBBC Switch: The Beeb’s teen strand is working on an online and TV soap opera, set to be broadcast weekly on BBC2 and in five-minute episodes on bbc.co.uk/switch later this year. The Cut is a drama devised by Eastenders writer Al Smith, director Sarah Walker and Peter Gibbons, who produced Bebo’s online-only drama series KateModern. From C21Media.net.

Channel 4 metrics: Following its re-launch which started last year and only finally ended in April, Channel4.com received 45 percent more visits and 35 percent more page views since April 1 compared to the same period last year. Richard Davidson-Houston, head of online products at Channel4.com, writes in a blog post that programme views via the site were 110 percent year on year on.

Orange mobile data: New figures from Orange show that the telco has 3.8 million 3G mobile broadband subscribers in he UK and that 12,877 gigabytes of data are sent from customers using its mobile “dongles” and through 3G-enabled phones each month. The company says it will be increasing mobile broadband speeds from the current 7.2 Mbps maximum to 14.4 Mbps in five cities by the end of the year. From bbc.co.uk.
