– Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) and Nokia (NYSE: NOK) team up on Star Trek gimmick: Verizon Wireless and Nokia are rolling out a new site that uses so-called “augmented-reality” technology to create an interactive version of the Star Trek movie, and promote products by both companies, reports AdWeek. Here’s the deal: visitors to site at www.joinstarfleetacademy.com can enter the “interactive video display center” to build an augmented-reality experience. It involves printing out a PDF document, reading “incoming message from Starfleet Academy,” while using your webcam. The site plays back the person with the trailer running over the top. The site also offers mobile applications and wallpapers.
