— HD iPlayer for Virgin: Virgin Media’s on demand service is to get HD versions of some BBC programmes via the iPlayer. Customers with a HD V+ STB and a HD-ready TV can watch a handful of flagship shows in HD from today. The two companies teamed up in May last year to bring the VOD service to VMED TV subscribers and the venture has served up 100 million views since then including 15 million in March. VMED also says it’s looking to increase the amount of HD on its own channels in the next few months.
— Shiny Media ads: UK blog network Shiny Media has signed up video ad firm The Web TV Enterprise to manage the online video ads for its 30 websites across 20 entertainment channels. Shiny says its videos attract 3.1 million unique users a month, including 500,000 for Tech Digest, which is launching a new weekly video show TechTonic. — RAI’s live streaming: Italian public service broadcaster Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI) has begun streaming two more of its channels online on its website. Teen-targeted Rai 4 and kids’ channel Rai Gulp now join Rai Uno, Rai Due, Rai Tre and Rai Tre on the Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Silverlight-based streaming platform, within Italy only.
