Mail Today, the daily from the India Today Group, has merged its digital division with parent India Today’s digital unit. In the process, seven jobs have become redundant. The division used to employ nine people, according to a source. India Today Group CEO Ashish Bagga confirmed the development. “We have merged the two divisions, so obviously there have been some redundancies. I do not know the exact number.” Bagga said the mandate for the division has not changed. The original plan was to build the digital division into a separate company and bring in UK’s Associated Newspapers Ltd as a majority stakeholder as there are no foreign investment restrictions in digital media companies. ANL, which publishes the Daily Mail, holds a 26% stake in Mail Today Newspapers Pvt. Ltd. “Nothing has changed,” Bagga said when asked about this plan. “Whatever may have been the mandate of the digital division, it remains the same. Operationally, we have made some changes,” he added.
