President, First Lady To Get Souped-Up BlackBerries Soon

imagePresident Obama, one of the most technically savvy presidents to date, will soon get a top secret, high-security BlackBerry, Obama administration officials told The Washington Times.

Apparently, the BlackBerry 8830 is in the final stages of development by the National Security Agency, which is ensuring that its encryption software meets federal standards. If that truly is the model, it will likely be a World Edition CDMA BlackBerry that doesn’t sport a camera (which means you probably won’t see any cute snapshots of “Bo,” the Portuguese Water Hound that’s terrorizing the first family, spontaneously posted to his Facebook page.).

It might take a few more months, reports are saying, but the president, Michelle Obama and a few top aides are likely to get a device. It will definitely be more handy than that he’s currently using, which is a patchwork of two devices: a BlackBerry and a secure handheld device known as “Sectera Edge.” The Sectera must be plugged into the presidential BlackBerry, making it cumbersome to fire off a quick email.
