AT&T (NYSE: T) said the number of connections made to its Wi-Fi hotspots rose to 10.5 million in the first three months — three times as many as the same period a year earlier and more than half of the 20 million connections made in all of 2008. It said the rate was boosted by smartphones, including the iPhone 3G and the BlackBerry Bold, which accounted for 4 million connections in the quarter, reports ComputerWorld.
