The HP dv3t isn’t as svelte and light as the dv2 that I’ve been reviewing and benchmarking, but it too is available for under $800. Falling in the more mainstream notebook genre, the dv3t offers a 13.3-inch LED display with the same 1280×800 resolution as the dv2. You can pair an Intel Core 2 Duo ranging from 2GHz to 2.66GHz with either the Intel GMA 4500MHD or NVIDIA Ge Force G 105 graphics and 512MB of video memory.
The base model comes with 2GB of RAM, but HP is currently offering a free upgrade to 3GB; the dv3t maxxes out at 8GB. Since the device is around 1.25-inches thick, you’d expect an integrated optical drive: you can go LightScribe DVD or Blu-Ray ROM inside. Most everything else is customizable as well: WiFi, Bluetooth, WWAN, battery choices between a 6-cell, 9-cell or both, for example. Starting at nearly five pounds, there are certainly many smaller options out there, but for full-fledged notebook power, the dv3t might be on your radar.
