We’re all about notebook batteries that are user-replaceable, since we often buy second batteries to provide extended “outlet-free” work time. One of the biggest compromises that Apple made with the MacBook Air was putting a fixed battery inside to keep it thin and sexy.
A firm that produces external battery sources has a product that MBA owners might want to take a look at: the cleverly named QuickerTek MacBook Air External Battery and/ or Charger. The QMAEBC will set you back $350 but provides an extra 6-10 hours of battery life. That’s a lot of green, but the company claims the battery pack will charge in 3 hours, which is pretty respectable. It seems pretty severe but I have used external batteries much bigger than this one in the past and even though it detracts from the wireless atmosphere, you can leave the battery in your backpack and just run the cord to the MBA.
Looking at the QuickerTek web site they point out that the battery pack charges the MBA internal battery while powering the notebook. It also looks like you need a modified MagSafe power adapter, which is another $100, or you can have QuickerTek modify an existing adapter for $25.
