Tropos Networks, the poster child of the MuniFi madness, is trying to reinvent itself — this time as a GreenNet company, reports Earth2Tech, our sister site . The company is hoping to sell its wireless mesh routers to utilities looking to build smart grids. Tropos had initially partnered with EarthLink for building municipality-wide wireless networks. Tropos later faced some technical challenges. Tropos’ then-CEO Ron Sege left the company and later re-emerged as president and COO of 3Com. Nevertheless, given the limited use of smart grid networks today, Tropos has a chance to edge its way into the market. The only problem: others, such as large telecoms, are thinking along the same lines.
