San Francisco-based kwiry sent out an email to its users today saying that it will is discontinuing its service, which allows you to send a text message to the web to help you remember something, like taking out the trash, or gives you the ability to add a movie to your Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX) queue while on the go.
The company, which raised $1 million in funding from Hummer Winblad Venture in March 2007, said it is shutting down “due to economic realities.” As of today, it will no longer be accepting sign-ups and the service will be completely shutdown on April 23. In the letter, which is also posted on the company’s web site, it says: “It’s with heavy hearts that we send this note….We have very much enjoyed getting to know many of you and working to build features to help you get things done and simplify your lives. We appreciate all of your help, feedback and patience as the kwiry service evolved. Unfortunately, due to economic realities, we can no longer maintain the service.”
Update: Kwiry’s CEO Ron Feldman just called me to confirm that the three-person company will be closing its doors after not being able to raise more capital. He said that they needed more time to get more users in order for the business model to work, and it would take capital to do that. “We ran out of that time, unfortunately.
