Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is hopping on the touchscreen bandwagon, and has plans to introduce three new devices that will feature big screens and full keyboards — but most of them won’t be ready for another year or so, reports TheStreet.com.
Nokia has not been a stranger to touchscreens, but its products have been to a Linux tablet and a couple phones, including the flagship device, the N97. These devices will apparently fall into their own class. According to analysts, one of the new models has a 4.2-inch touchscreen and a slide-out keyboard. The mobile tablet will be introduced in the fourth quarter before Christmas. The second device, codenamed Nautilus, is super thin, and has a nifty sensor used to extend or withdraw the keyboard. The keypad is so thin that when it slides out, the keys actually rise for easier typing. The first Nautilus phone isn’t due for another year. No word on what the third touchscreen will be like, but TheStreet (NSDQ: TSCM) is also reporting that Nokia will incorporate vibration technology from Immersion (IMMR Quote), which provides feedback to make typing more accurate.
