– Virgin Media: The Advertising Standards Agency has banned an ad in which the ISP said its 20Mbps service could be received by all customers. Sky had challenged the claim on bandwidth grounds and the ASA upheld the complaint as it had not seen evidence to support Virgin’s claim.
— Joost iPhone ads: The video player says it will start inserting ads in its videos on its iPhone app. Ad vendor FreeWheel will manage the insertion. Joost has already been building ad inventory for its web player version. One-time counterpart Babelgum also recently unveiled its iPhone app. Looks like the video sites are now trying to make wireless pay. Via AllThingsD
— LiveStation: The live news straming app has added Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB), the Norway-based news network broadcasting in to Myanmar, to its roster of online channels. LiveStation says it’s “expanded its remit in order to help broadcast the voices of those living in areas where freedom of expression is suppressed or limited”.
— BT (NYSE: BT) Vision: The IPTV service will resurrect its web-based VOD, which it canned last year. It’s tapped VOD vendor FilmOn to power the offering. FilmOn also says it’s talking with O2 about a similar service. Via C21.
— Web vs TV: By June 2010, Europeans will spend more time online than they do watching TV, according to research carried out by Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT). By then, people will on average spend 14.2 hours online and 11.5 hours a week watching TV. Back in 2007, a study from the European Interactive Advertising Association found that 82 percent of Europeans aged 16 to 24 used the internet between five and seven days a week while only 77 percent watched TV as much.
