@ CTIA: Qualcomm’s FLO TV Adds Three New Markets And Improves Coverage In 16

Despite initial concerns that Qualcomm’s broadcast TV subsidiary, FLO TV, would be disrupted by the digital TV delay, the company said at CTIA today that it continues to improve coverage in some markets, and has launched in three new ones. The latest efforts increases its coverage area by 10 million users over 19 markets. In all, its service covers 68 markets and is sold through both AT&T (NYSE: T) and Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ). Its goal is to reach more than 200 million consumers in 100 U.S. markets by the end of the year. The company said the expansion was possible because the FCC allowed some stations to vacate their analog channels and move over to digital before the new June 12 deadline. The company’s three newest markets are: Atlantic City, N.J.; Greensboro, N.C. and Wilmington, Del.

In addition to increasing the number of markets where customers can buy their service, the company said it’s also working on increasing the number of handsets that can receive the broadcast signals. It is now providing OEM support to integrate FLO TV on Windows Mobile phones.
