Western Digital Buys SiliconSystems: Can’t Ignore SSDs

wd-logoOne of the largest makers of computer hard disk drives, Western Digital, has acquired SiliconSystems for $65 million. SiliconSystems is a leading supplier of solid state disks (SSDs) for embedded systems. The takeover will happen immediately and instantly puts WD in the SSD business.

I have long been telling a friend of mine at WD that the company could not afford to ignore the growth of SSD, and apparently they have decided that is indeed so. WD can bring a massive amount of resources to the SSD business, and this could be the harbinger of great things to come.
