Our friends at NewTeeVee are reporting that RIM is planning to announce a new service for the BlackBerry that puts full TV episodes right on your phone. The new service is rumored to be announced at the CTIA next week, so maybe Kevin can get the scoop on this. The BlackBerry Storm would be the perfect device for this content given its big, beautiful screen but if the information given to NewTeeVee is correct it won’t work on the Storm.
RIM is reported to be downloading the content over WiFi to prevent slamming the 3G networks, which makes perfect sense. The problem is the Storm’s lack of WiFi, meaning it won’t be able to get content via this scheme. That would be a shame as this new service sounds pretty cool. It would be ironic if RIM introduces its own paid service that demonstrates clearly the bad decision to leave WiFi out of some of their handsets. Check out the details over at NTV.
